The United States House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, is to visit an inter-Korean border region jointly overseen by the American-led United Nations Command and North Korea later Thursday, according to the Associated Press, citing a South Korean official.

If that travel takes place, Pelosi would be the highest-ranking American to visit the Joint Security Area since then-President Donald Trump visited in 2019 for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to the article.

Pelosi will meet South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin Pyo and other senior members of Parliament earlier in the day for discussions on regional security, economic cooperation, and climate concerns, according to the Associated Press.
