China’s foreign ministry said on Friday that it summoned Canadian ambassador Jim Nickel in Beijing over Canada’s involvement in a statement published by the Group of Seven (G7) countries’ foreign ministers.

This is the latest in a series of diplomatic objections issued by Beijing after the G7’s call on China on Wednesday to address tensions in the Taiwan Strait peacefully.

According to a Chinese foreign ministry statement released on Friday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng called Nickel on Thursday and asked Canada to “immediately correct its mistakes” on the matter of Taiwan or “bear all consequences”
