According to Economy Minister Robert Habeck, the German government has authorized energy-saving measures for the winter, including curbs on the use of lighting in public spaces.
“Overall the measures save energy. However, not to the extent that we can sit back and say, ‘That’ll do now,'” Habeck told reporters after a cabinet meeting in Berlin.
“They will roughly reduce gas usage by 2-2.5%,” he noted.
The cabinet also passed legislation on Wednesday that will prioritize energy transport on the nation’s railways, Habeck stated with Transport Minister Volker Wissing.
