One of President Vladimir Putin’s closest supporters declared on Monday that Russia would achieve its goals in the Ukraine crisis on its own terms, despite the West’s long-term plot to destroy Russia.

“Russia is conducting a special military operation in Ukraine and is attaining peace on our terms,” said former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s security council, in an interview with TASS.

Medvedev framed the 2008 war in Georgia, NATO’s westward expansion, and the Ukraine conflict as part of a plot by the US and its allies to destroy Russia.

He was cited as saying, “The goal is the same: to destroy Russia,”
